“Respectlessly” she likes to describe the Harper, a courageous addition to the Boutique Hotel scene in North Norfolk and gives a particularly pretty, untouched corner of the district an additional splash of color.
The word would once have been “inaccessible”, but with the dueling of the previously overloaded A11 – and now a special new partnership with a luxurious car attempts based in the EC1 that aims to provide “seamless travel” – it is easy enough to get too Driving from London to this relaxed retreat of the coastal country. Especially at the wheel of a luxurious range Rover …
It is hard to believe if you roll into the yard on arrival, but a few years ago this was the place of a glass factory. This business left Langham and moved nearby, so that a developer can move in and convert the premises, and a hotel with 32 rooms, spa, bar, lounge, restaurant and the conjured up, all of which were arranged around a large central courtyard,, Heaven is open to the Big Norfolk.
Renovation complete and a clutch of private houses that were built on site was taken over by the Cutmore-Scott family and comprises a team of mother and father, whose decades of experience in the hospitality and wedding business bubbles was replaced in the playful presentation of this Unusually stylish, well -guided hotels.
Spiritedly away
The conversion of a slightly klckfest – potentially characterless – took a certain type of genius. But it works. The artistically designed interior with old rays that cross on the upper floors, a cozy, spirited hiding place with pleasant surprises at every corner offset the simple flint-and-brick outer shell.
For example, take the unique, handmade furniture, including new industrial chic tables, cupboards and lighting. Or the warm leather and factory sofas, which were laid under extravagant oversized wooden chandeliers or against warm, exposed masonry.
If you expect a historical experience of the Landeshaushaus, forget it. The mood here owes the light touch of an open, contemporary loft or warehouse apartment.
In order to prevent everything from looking too industrial, there are colorful contemporary works of art on the walls, huge volumes of modern art, which in the lounge next to the game shelf, lots of new glass (of course) and even a flash of neon -embank, sit along the Wall in the restaurant; “Blow me away …”.
Disrespectful? Not really, but certainly quirky and firmly in accordance with the claim of the Harper to offer a “contemporary view of the English stay in land”.
The unusual topic continues in the bedrooms and range from “big” to “bigger”, “largest” and “biggest plus”. Not only expect comfortable mattresses, fine linen, soft mood lighting, large (intelligent) television screens, high-end smell wood, in a conscious allusion to this industrial past.
Even more fun – in our room – two large, old safe with polished voices (complete with the combination levels that select criminals in thrilders) were put into operation as statement tables. Supplemented by more furniture in the style of metal-and-tember, a large floor-controlled arc lamp and-because pets are welcome-a fine, cozy, increased dog bed of pasture work. Luxury for Fergal, our miniature schnauzer.
Soft sale
The entertainment continues in the lobby in which there is a billiard table, desperate fake-med-antique retro roller shutters on the walls, soft “industrial” lighting … and more comfortable seating areas.
Off the lobby is a glittering bar with velvet-covered seating in a number of striking colors and quirky works of art … again to the cave, where the accent on leather padding in the club style, dark wooden tone, dark wood tones and striking pop art.
The best winter option for guests is to cuddle yourself with one of the soft, waxed carpets of the Harper and at the same time enjoy a favorite film on the huge TV projector screen … the bar (almost) within the arm length.
Everything is a large, open, central “square”, a sociable place of meeting with soft planting, discrete seating areas, hug log burners, occasional art installation and at night – long faiths of dreamy fairy lights.
Everything may be fun, but here the food is also a serious business. On the upper floor, in a high, radiant Stanley restaurant and next door in Ivy’s, the tedious care is accepted with presentation, taste and inventive dishes. The starters include gemstones such as bacon scones with British honey and clotted cream or candied beets, ricotta, smoked oil and candied peanuts or shaved sprouts, ranch dressing, blue cheese, hazelnuts with anti -tensioning and chestnuts for the beginning.
For the network, how about Vadouvan curry curry cauliflower, data, cucumbers and bufffreis or wild mushroom risotto with parsley, epoisse and shallots or stone bass with chorizo, butter beans -Cassouleet and Dill or Ribeye with Truffle Baron Bigod rat and onion and onion and onion Bone sauce? The only problem is that you have to be overlooked over your or two nights. Make sure it is not the gap for the More-Speck scone.
They are sensitive, not only for the moods of guests and pets in the Harper, where the employees are informally happy and helpful, but also for their inheritance. There are pictures of the glass blinds at work in the restaurant and – in the lobby – an exhibition of the colorful glass birds, animals and other figures that have been created here. Outside there is a claw-foot dog bath with hose (hot and cold!) For forays to the beach.
Guests who want to work through this Clotted Cream Spacon Scone Starter can go to the spa where there is a swimming pool (long enough for a dozen strokes per round, depending on the energy level), a whirlpool and a sauna. The reception could even take care of your dog while injecting down a couch in one of the treatment studios.
There is more. There is family room and the Harper has taken over one of the new cottages on the site. This can also be booked. The owners took the rental agreement of the beautiful old Bluebell Pub a five -minute walk in this historic village and the old hall next to. The food experience is already impressive, but soon the Harper will have a new two chef from Amsterdam awarded a Michelin star.
Luxury ride
And this new collaboration to whisk guests out of the pressure from London with the promise to “exchange travel”? The Harper has teamed up with Luxury London Car Rental Firma The Out, which specializes in Land Rover products such as Range Rover, Evoque and defender (and offers the guests a discount of ten percent) because not everyone has a car and even if They do them, you may want to make a special weekend out of it, in some posher than usual.
It is not inexpensive, but all extras are included in the price, including insurance, mileage, additional drivers, car seats, a bicycle shelf or even a dog separator. The out delivers on time to the departure to your door and collects again at the end of the trip after your car is strapped with Norfolk sand and mud. Fortunately, they clean at the end of the trip, not them.
We arrived stylishly and sat high in a luxurious, flawless range of Rover Sport when we slid into the further range of Norfolk. It all made it even more special, especially when we toured through the nearby coast, with the dog of apparently endless Holkham Beach with a picturesque well-next-the-sea, charmingly back to the Harper for her own luxury hardness.
The Harper reaches its goal to deliver a quirky refreshing “reset” in spade. Driving in an unusual luxury is the icing on the cake.
