Mindy Kaling put her stamp on the on-trend skirt suit in Patou’s Fall 2025 show. The actress, producer and writer arrived at the Paris Fashion Week presentation wearing a checkered ensemble.
Kaling nodded to “clueless” and gave the plaid skirt suit a modern makeover in a brown double-breasted jacket with a wide lapel and a matching miniskirt. She paired both with black tights, a pair of ghastly lace and Patou’s leather shovel bag. Kaling’s look was curated by Erin Walsh.

Skirt suits have been having a moment in recent months. The matching set was favored by Taylor Swift, who wore a ’90s Versace skirt suit and another ’90s pair last November. Skirt suits were also a popular choice last fall among Demi Moore in a floral set by Erdem, Ariana Grande in an asymmetrical vest and full skirt by Atelier Versace, Cate Blanchett in Stripes from Rochas’ Resort 2025, and Zendaya in a sculptural take on the skirt suit by Louis Vuitton.
This weekend power suit was one of the biggest takeaways from the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. The skirt suit showed up on the red carpet thanks to Cynthia Erivo’s sculptural Dior ensemble, which paid tribute to her “evil” character Elphaba and Marlee Matlin, who wore separate tailored pieces combined in her look.
Plaid was also on trend for fall 2024, with designers from ChloĆ©’s Chemena Kamali to Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuiri and Yohji Yamamoto bringing new takes.
The Patou Fall 2025 show in Paris brought out a bevy of stars, including Katie Holmes, who styled a pinstripe button-up with a brooch, pleated trousers, a brown leather sweetheart and statement earrings. Zooey Deschanel also attended the show while wearing a monochromatic red mod look that consisted of a mini shift dress with a Peter Pan collar, matching tights, tonal patent leather Mary Jane platforms, and a leather handbag. Participants also included Debi Mazar, Justine Lupe, Juliana Canfield, Catherine Reitman and Pauline Chalamet.
